Government Providing Quality Seeds of Various Potato Varieties to Farmers - Shyam Singh Rana

 

Chandigarh, September 8 – Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. Shyam Singh Rana, said the State Government, through the Horticulture Department, is providing quality seeds of various improved and disease-resistant potato varieties to farmers to increase their income and make them economically self-reliant.

 

He said that the Potato Technology Centre at Shamgarh in Karnal is providing Early Generation Seed and minitubers of high-yielding varieties such as Kufri Pukhraj, Kufri Mohan, Kufri Khyati, Kufri Chipsona and Kufri Frysona to farmers through a transparent system.

 

The Cabinet Minister said that farmers can conveniently book these seeds online from their homes through the Horticulture Department’s official portal. Using these certified, virus-free seeds will not only significantly increase potato yield per acre but also help farmers secure a premium price for their produce in the market due to improved crop quality, directly increasing their net income.

 

He said that under the Early Generation Seed (Year-3) category, the Centre has 1,276 quintals of seed-size, 298.5 quintals of undersize and 157 quintals of oversize seed of the Kufri Pukhraj variety available. Similarly, under Early Generation Seed (Year-4), 255.5 quintals of seed-size, 9 quintals of undersize and 210 quintals of oversize seed of the Kufri Mohan variety are available.

 

Under the Early Generation Seed (Year-1) category, 1 quintal of undersize seed of Kufri Chipsona-1; 2.5 quintals of seed-size and 20.5 quintals of oversize seed of Kufri Khyati; and 0.5 quintal of oversize seed of Kufri Uday are available for farmers.

 

He further said that adequate quantities of potato minitubers are also available under the PTCMT category. These include 25,000 minitubers of Kufri Uday, 8,000 of Kufri Chipsona-1, 11,000 of Kufri Himalini and 75,000 of Kufri Frysona. Farmers can ensure timely booking through the portal according to their requirements.
