79 Teachers Receive State-Level Honours on Teachers’ Day

Chandigarh, September 5 - On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh and Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini honoured 79 teachers for their outstanding contributions to the field of education at a state-level Teachers’ Samman Samaroh organised by the School Education Department in Panchkula.

Each of the honoured teachers received a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, a  medal, a shawl and two advance increments.

Haryana’s First Lady, Smt. Mitra Ghosh and School Education Minister Shri Mahipal Dhanda were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the function as the Chief Guest, Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh congratulated all the awardees. He said that the honour was not merely a recognition of individual achievement, but a tribute to the entire teaching community, the education system and the bright future of Haryana.

The Governor said that the life of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is an inspiring example of the fact that teaching is not merely a profession, but a powerful means of nation- and society-building. Teachers’ Day, therefore, is not just an occasion to congratulate teachers; it is also an opportunity to acknowledge the importance of education and express gratitude to those who dedicate their lives to teaching.

He said that the world of education is changing rapidly. Through modern technologies such as the Internet and Artificial Intelligence, students can access information from across the world within seconds. However, there is a difference between information and knowledge, and between knowledge and wisdom. Technology can provide information, but a teacher imparts wisdom. Artificial Intelligence can provide answers, but a teacher teaches students how to ask the right questions.

The Governor said that in this age of technology, the role of teachers has not diminished; rather, it has become even more important.

*The purpose of education is not merely to create successful individuals, but good human beings*

The Governor said that the responsibility of teachers today goes far beyond completing the curriculum and delivering examination results. Along with imparting knowledge, teachers also have the responsibility of shaping the character of students. They must inculcate discipline, honesty, hard work, a scientific temper and a sense of social responsibility among them.

He said that it is equally important to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education because of economic or social circumstances. Providing equal opportunities to all, particularly encouraging the education of girls, is a collective responsibility.

The Governor said that the purpose of education should not merely be to determine what a child will become in the future; more importantly, it should shape the kind of human being the child becomes. Society needs doctors with a spirit of service, scientists who work for the welfare of humanity, officers who take decisions with justice and sensitivity, entrepreneurs who create employment opportunities, and citizens who are responsible towards the nation and society.

Calling upon teachers to broaden the horizons of education, the Governor said that students should be prepared not merely for examinations, but for life. They should not be prepared only for jobs, but also to become responsible and useful members of society.

“Do not merely give them answers; teach them how to ask questions,” he said, adding that students who learn to question are the ones who go on to become the researchers and innovators of the future.

*The foundation of Viksit Bharat 2047 is being laid in today’s classrooms*

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Governor said that strong foundation of a developed India is being laid in today’s classrooms. He said that a child studying in a school today may become a scientist tomorrow, a young girl may grow up to become a distinguished administrator, and a student may serve the nation as an athlete, doctor or teacher. Teachers are laying the foundation for that future today. The Governor said that India’s future takes shape in school classrooms as much as it does in Parliament, and the teacher is one of the most important architects of that future.

*An honour marks the beginning of a new responsibility*

Addressing the teachers who were honoured on the occasion, the Governor said that the award was not the end of their journey, but the beginning of a new responsibility.

He said that the State had recognised their outstanding work and achievements, and that they now had a greater responsibility to share their experiences with fellow teachers, mentor the younger generation of educators, contribute towards making their schools even better, and nurture excellence along with human values among students.

Principal Secretary, School Education Department Sh. Vijay Singh Dahiya, Secretary to Governor Sh. Vijaykumar Bhavikatti, Director General Secondary Education Department Sh. Jitender Kumar, Director Elementary Education Smt Manita Malik, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Sat Pal Sharma, Mayor of Panchkula, Sh. Shyan Lal Bansal, District BJP President Sh. Ajay Mittal and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
