*Taxpayers Get Two-Month Option to Pay Property Tax at Old Rates under New Property Tax System*

 

 

 

*All Taxpayers Urged to Deposit Property Tax within Prescribed Period*

 

Chandigarh, September 18 – As per the notification issued by the Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department on September 1, 2026, the new system of property taxation and rates has been implemented with effect from August 1, 2026. Under the new system, property owners and occupiers have been given the option to pay property tax as per the rates prescribed under the old notification of 2013 for a period of two months from August 1, 2026.

 

Giving information in this regard, a spokesperson of the Department said that after the prescribed two-month period, all property owners and occupiers will be required to pay property tax only in accordance with the new notification.

 

The spokesperson clarified that property owners or occupiers who have already paid their property tax will not be affected by the new notification for the financial year 2026-27. The new notification will also have no impact on arrears and interest pertaining to the period up to the financial year 2025-26, and such arrears and interest will remain unchanged.

 

The spokesperson said that from the financial year 2026-27 onwards, property tax for all properties will be assessed in accordance with the new notification. All taxpayers have been urged to avail themselves of the prescribed period provided by the Government and deposit their property tax at the old rates within this period.
