Students to Get World-Class Facilities in Higher Education Institutions, Effective Implementation of NEP Our Top Priority: Mahipal Dhanda

Chandigarh, August 11 – Haryana Higher Education Minister Sh. Mahipal Dhanda today chaired a review meeting of the Higher Education Council in Panchkula. Various aspects related to infrastructure, academic quality and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in universities and higher education institutions across the state were discussed during the meeting.

On the occasion, Education Minister Sh. Mahipal Dhanda said the state government’s main objective is to provide better and modern facilities to students in all universities and higher education institutions across the state, so that they do not face any inconvenience in pursuing their education. He said that students can acquire quality education only in a positive and well-equipped environment. The government is making efforts to provide the youth of Haryana with an international-standard education system within the state itself.

A detailed review was conducted of the qualitative and quantitative progress made so far by universities and higher education institutions in the implementation of NEP 2020. The Education Minister directed that the National Education Policy be implemented fully and in a time-bound manner so that students can derive its long-term benefits.

Various parameters for granting autonomy to higher education institutions were also discussed in detail to ensure effective and outcome-oriented implementation of the National Education Policy. The Education Minister said that administrative and academic autonomy would enable institutions to perform better in the fields of innovation and research.

The meeting also reviewed the current status, progress, governance structure, implementation strategy and monitoring mechanism of the ‘Institutional Development Plans’ of various educational institutions. The Minister directed officials to ensure that the plans do not remain confined to paper, but are implemented transparently and effectively on the ground. He also directed that a robust monitoring system be established for this purpose.

Emphasis was laid on better coordination among various departments to accelerate the overall implementation of the National Education Policy. During the meeting, department-wise progress reports related to the implementation of NEP 2020 were presented by the School Education Department, Skill Development and Industrial Training Department, and Women and Child Development Department.

The Education Minister directed all concerned departments to work in coordination so that an integrated and strong educational framework can be developed from primary education to higher and skill education. Chairman of the Higher Education Council Sh. Kailash Chandra Sharma, Director of the Women and Child Development Department, Haryana, Dr. Priyanka Soni, Vice Chancellors of universities and other officials were present at the meeting.
