Chandigarh, August 24- The Department of Art and Cultural Affairs, Haryana, will organise a state-level competition for Been troupes at 10 am on September 2, 2026, at the Multi Art Cultural Centre, Haryana Kala Parishad, Kurukshetra. The competition aims to promote Haryana’s rich folk art and folk music traditions while providing a platform to artists associated with Been playing to showcase their talent.
The department will award first, second and third prizes, besides five consolation prizes, to the best-performing troupes. The first-prize winner will receive Rs. 75,000, the second-prize winner Rs. 60,000 and the third-prize winner Rs. 50,000. In addition, five consolation prizes of Rs. 10,000 each will be awarded.
As per the prescribed eligibility criteria, participants must be bona fide residents of Haryana and are required to carry their Aadhaar cards. Each troupe must comprise 8 to 10 artists, including at least 3 to 4 Been players. Participants will also be required to perform in traditional Haryanvi folk attire.
The department has clarified that no travelling allowance or daily allowance will be provided to participating troupes. The decision of the jury in the competition will be final and binding.
The Department of Art and Cultural Affairs has invited Been artists and troupes from across the state to participate in large numbers and contribute to preserving and enriching Haryana’s folk music tradition.
