Chandigarh, August 4- Athletes who returned to India after winning medals for the country at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, were accorded a grand civic reception at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Tuesday. The welcome ceremony was marked by patriotic songs, traditional drumbeats and a shower of flowers, while chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai echoed across the airport premises.

 

Haryana Minister of State for Sports, Sh. Gaurav Gautam, was present at the airport to receive the medal-winning contingent. He felicitated the athletes and extended a traditional welcome in recognition of their outstanding performances on the international stage.

 

Congratulating the athletes, Sh. Gaurav Gautam said their dedication, discipline and exceptional performances had brought immense pride to the nation and enhanced India's standing in international sports. He remarked that the achievements of the medal winners would motivate countless young Indians to take up sports with determination and strive for excellence.

 

Extending his best wishes for their future, the Sports Minister said that the Haryana Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, is consistently working to strengthen the sports ecosystem in the State. He said players are being provided access to world-class infrastructure and quality training, while outstanding performers are also being rewarded through attractive cash incentives and employment opportunities under the State's sports policy.

 

Highlighting India's performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, Sh. Gaurav Gautam said the Indian contingent delivered an impressive campaign by securing a total of 39 medals.
