Providing Better Facilities to Farmers in Mandis and Ensuring Fair Prices for Their Crops Is Government’s Priority: Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana

Chandigarh,

Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Sh. Shyam Singh Rana visited the Jatauli and Farrukhnagar grain markets in Gurugram on Sunday to review arrangements for the procurement of bajra. During the visit, he inspected the crops brought to the mandis, the procurement process and the facilities being provided to farmers. He also interacted with farmers and commission agents to obtain feedback on the arrangements. SDM Dinesh Luhach welcomed the Agriculture Minister and briefed him on the procurement process.

The Agriculture Minister directed officials to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience in the mandis and that their grievances are resolved promptly. He said that crop procurement must be carried out transparently and in accordance with the prescribed standards so that farmers do not have to wait unnecessarily to sell their produce.

To review procurement arrangements in the mandis, the Agriculture Minister held a meeting at the Market Committee office with officials of the concerned departments and procurement agencies. He said that the Central and Haryana Governments are continuously working to strengthen farmers financially and safeguard their interests. Ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce, along with providing better facilities in mandis, remains among the government’s key priorities.

He directed officials to pay close attention to every stage of the procurement process and ensure that farmers do not face any difficulties while selling their crops.

Sh. Shyam Singh Rana said that merely procuring crops in the mandis is not enough; timely lifting of procured produce, proper storage and payment to farmers within the stipulated period are equally important. He directed procurement agencies to work in coordination and regularly review the arrangements.

He said that unnecessary accumulation of crops in the mandis must be avoided. Timely lifting will ensure adequate space within the market premises, enabling other farmers to bring their produce to the mandis without difficulty. Officials were instructed not to show any laxity in procurement arrangements.

The Agriculture Minister directed officials to ensure adequate availability of basic facilities, including drinking water, electricity, shade, toilets and cleanliness, in the mandis. Farmers should have access to a clean and convenient environment while selling their produce. He asked the concerned departments to conduct regular inspections and make necessary improvements to the arrangements.

On the occasion, Market Committee Pataudi-Jatauli Chairman Manoj Moklawas, Secretary Vipin Yadav, officials of the concerned departments, commission agents and other dignitaries were present.
