CM Administers Ekta Diwas at Civil Secretariat
Over two lakh government jobs provided without recommendations or bribes, says CM
Chandigarh, October 31
Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday called upon citizens and public servants to draw on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy of national integration to help build a developed India by 2047.
Addressing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) programme at the Haryana Civil Secretariat, the Chief Minister said Patel’s vision and determination had brought hundreds of princely states together after Independence. Carrying that legacy forward required a shared commitment to national unity, good governance and development, he said.
The Chief Minister paid floral tributes to Patel on his birth anniversary, extended greetings to the people of Haryana and administered the national unity pledge to officers and employees.
Recalling the challenges of 1947, he said Patel had overcome doubts about India’s ability to remain united. His handling of Junagadh and Hyderabad demonstrated his unwavering commitment to national integration. The title ‘Sardar’, he noted, had been conferred on Patel by farmers in recognition of his struggle for their rights.
Turning to public administration, Sh. Saini said Patel’s vision for the All India Services remained relevant. In his address to officers on April 21, 1947, Patel had emphasised service, impartiality and integrity—the principles that must continue to guide governance.
National unity, the Chief Minister said, was sustained as much by fair decisions and public trust as by territorial integration.Every citizen should feel that the government belonged to them.
He said Haryana is putting this approach into practice through transparent recruitment and citizen-focused governance. More than two lakh young people had been given government jobs without recommendations or bribes, ending the culture of favouritism in recruitment.
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi had honoured Patel’s contribution by initiating National Unity Day celebrations in 2014 and commissioning the Statue of Unity, which conveyed India’s message of unity to the world.
Warning against attempts to divide society through regionalism, linguistic differences and rumours, he urged citizens to uphold the spirit of “Haryana Ek–Haryanvi Ek”. Haryana, he said, must play a leading role in realising the goal of a developed India by 2047.
Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi thanked the Chief Minister for attending and recalled Patel’s resolve and administrative skill in uniting the country at a challenging moment in its history.
Additional Chief Secretaries Sh. Sudhir Rajpal and Dr. Sumita Misra, along with other officers and employees, attended the programme.
