Haryana Government brings beekeeping under ‘Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana
Beekeepers to get financial protection against risks and losses
Chandigarh,
In another historic and innovative initiative aimed at safeguarding the interests of farmers and entrepreneurs associated with the agriculture and horticulture sectors, the Haryana Government has brought beekeeping under the ambit of the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana. This decision will provide significant financial security and relief to beekeepers across the state.
Sharing details of this important decision, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. Shyam Singh Rana, said that the initiative would substantially reduce the concerns of farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in beekeeping regarding losses caused by natural calamities and unforeseen incidents.
He informed that the scheme would cover losses resulting from the submergence of beehive boxes and colonies during floods, destruction caused by fire, and accidents occurring during transportation. However, in cases of transportation-related accidents, insurance coverage would be applicable only if the accident occurs within Haryana and an official FIR or DDR has been registered.
In addition, the scheme also provides compensation for losses caused by epidemics affecting honeybees.
Sharing the details about the eligibility criteria and framework of the scheme, the Agriculture Minister said that insurance coverage would be available for a maximum of 250 bee colonies and boxes per beekeeper. Registration under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana–Honey* would be mandatory. Beekeepers would also be required to provide the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana unit number for each box.
Elaborating on the insurance premium and compensation amount, Sh. Shyam Singh Rana said that the premium has been kept highly affordable at Rs. 50 per colony and Rs. 50 per box. Against this nominal premium, the insurance coverage would be Rs. 1,250 per colony and Rs. 1,250 per box. The maximum insurance coverage could extend up to Rs. 3,12,500 for colonies and Rs. 3,12,500 for boxes, respectively.
The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister urged beekeepers across Haryana to take maximum advantage of this welfare initiative.
