Chandigarh, October 10: Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij today launched a scathing attack over the protest in Delhi by the “Cockroach Janata Party” and the lockdown-like situation arising from it. He alleged that some leaders, political parties and individuals in the country had effectively taken a contract from hostile foreign forces to obstruct India's development and create anarchy, as they were not engaging in rational discourse.

While Speaking to media persons today, Sh. Vij said that while the right to protest was available to everyone, compliance with the law was equally obligatory. Referring to the guidelines of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, he said that protesters were required to give at least 10 days' prior notice so that the government could make the necessary arrangements and ensure that ordinary citizens were not inconvenienced.

He added that if a protest was organised without prior notice or with only two days' notice, the government still had a responsibility to maintain public order and protect the peace and convenience of the general public. The minister said that people should be able to continue their businesses and daily activities without disruption. He alleged that such protests sought to deprive ordinary citizens of their fundamental right to peace and tranquillity.

Reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement that he was “surprised” that the President had not denied allegations of electoral fraud, Sh. Anil Vij said that people in the country were no longer taking Rahul Gandhi's statements seriously. He alleged that the Congress leader was distorting facts and presenting issues out of context.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi's claim that the Chief Election Commissioner was not meeting him, Sh. Vij said that Rahul Gandhi had not clarified when he had sought an appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner. He alleged that such statements were being made with the intention of creating unrest and political disorder in the country.

Commenting on the BJP's reported record-margin victory in the Nandigram by-election, Sh. Anil Vij took a dig at the Congress, asserting that the ultimate decision in a democracy rests with the people.

He said that despite the Congress's political manoeuvring and repeated attempts to gain an advantage, the electorate had handed the party a crushing defeat. He pointed out that the Congress had failed to win even a single seat, while the NDA had secured four seats.

Sh. Vij said that the results reflected the people's support for the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Democratic Alliance, rather than the Congress.
