Central GST Superintendent caught red-handed taking a bribe of ₹2.50 lakh

Chandigarh, December 6. As part of the special campaign being run against corruption in Haryana, the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV & ACB), Haryana has achieved a significant success today. The Bureau has caught a Superintendent of the Central GST Department red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹2,50,000.

Verification of complaint and revelation of bribery demand

According to the information received, the accused officer was demanding an illegal gratification of ₹2.50 lakh in exchange for activating the GST number of the complainant’s firm. After the complaint was verified, the Bureau immediately initiated further action.

Planned trap and successful arrest

In a precise and well-organized trap, the accused was apprehended red-handed with the bribe money at Bada Bhaiya Chowk, Village Basi, Gurugram. The accused has been identified as Bharat Meena (39 years), Superintendent, Central GST Bahadurgarh, District Jhajjar.

Seven days of surveillance and further strict action

The Rohtak team had been continuously monitoring this case for the past seven days, following which a planned trap was laid today, leading to the accused’s arrest. Initial investigation indicates possible involvement of other officials as well. The Bureau has made it clear that strict legal action will also be taken against any officers or employees whose names emerge during the investigation.

Legal action and further investigation

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The recovered bribe money has been sealed and secured for judicial proceedings. Several important aspects have surfaced during the initial investigation, and further inquiry is underway.

‘Zero Tolerance’ policy and appeal to the public

Bureau Chief Ajay Singhal has stated that under the State Government’s Zero Tolerance policy against corruption, such stringent actions will continue. No officer or employee involved in bribery will be spared under any circumstances. The head of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Haryana, has appealed to the public that if any officer or employee demands a bribe in exchange for government work, they should immediately report it on the Bureau’s toll-free numbers 1800-180-2022 and 1064.
