Gurugram Metro Expansion Gains Momentum, Chief Secretary Directs Swift Finalisation of DPR

Haryana Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi today reviewed the progress of the proposed Sector 56–Panchgaon Metro corridor and directed the concerned agencies to finalise the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) within the stipulated timeframe so that the project can move swiftly towards approval and implementation.

The high-level review assumes significance as the proposed 35.25-km Metro corridor, comprising 28 stations, is planned to connect some of Gurugram’s fastest-growing residential, commercial, industrial and urban development areas. The project has also been designed for integration with existing and proposed rail-based transport systems, creating the framework for a wider and interconnected public transport network across the Gurugram-Manesar-Panchgaon region.

The meeting, chaired by the Chief Secretary, was attended by Sh. Anurag Aggarwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department; Sh. J. Ganeshan, Director, Town and Country Planning Department; Sh. Ashok Meena, Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department; Sh. Vinay Pratap, Managing Director, HSIIDC; and Sh. Mukul Kumar, CA, HSVP-cum-Managing Director, HMRTC, along with senior officers of other concerned agencies.

The proposed Metro line will run through key areas of Gurugram, including Sectors 56, 61, 65, 66, 50 and 49, Kherki Daula, Global City, New Gurugram sectors 84, 86 and 90, IMT Manesar and Panchgaon. The corridor has been planned as a Medium Capacity Metro Rail system, with a design speed of 90 km/h and Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling, bringing modern and high-capacity public transport infrastructure to the rapidly expanding region.

The Chief Secretary stressed that the project must be planned not only to meet present transportation requirements but also with a clear vision for the next 15 to 20 years, keeping in view the rapid pace of urbanisation and economic growth in Gurugram and adjoining areas.

A major feature of the proposed corridor is its extensive multimodal integration with existing and future public transport systems. The proposed integration is expected to play a key role in creating a connected mass-transit grid for the rapidly developing Gurugram region, rather than developing individual transport corridors in isolation.

Chief Secretary Rastogi stressed that all critical planning issues should be resolved at the DPR stage itself to ensure that the project can move forward without avoidable delays. He emphasised that infrastructure planning for a rapidly expanding urban region such as Gurugram must anticipate future requirements well in advance, keeping in view the pace of urbanisation and economic growth in the region.

He directed the concerned departments and agencies to work in close coordination and finalise the revised DPR within the stipulated timeframe so that the proposed project can be taken forward for the next stage of approval.
